I'd like to hear brother Usama2's thoughts about this...

I do not like al-Jazeerah in any shape or form. Some people confuse Arab nationalism (which is indeed a trademark of AJ) with Islam; but I'm of the opinion that it actually advocates democracy and secularism and distrust for Islam and Shari'ah.

I like what you said, brother.

When I think of Al Jazeera, I place it in its context of the Western plan for the Muslim world.
After the PGWI, America had 100,000s troops, 1000s of companies and major plans to change the Arabian Pennisula's Gulf region to its liking. The Gulf was originally set up by the British empire and the regimes of the maintained their loyalty to the British. But America's massive presence forced the regimes to cater to American global interests or suffer the consequences. (Kuwait's reconstruction revealed the bulk of Kuwaiti wealth once channelled towards the UK was redirected towards America to the tune of 100s of billions).
In the early 1990s, American Neo Cons wanted to expand and spread American power since the Cold War was over.
In 1995, America supported the overthrow of the emire of Qatar to be replaced by his liberal son.
In 1996, the new emir, Shaykh Hamad, established Al Jazeera with over 130 million dollars. Its no surprise that the channel shares British satellites with the BBC and the majority of its staff are British, British educated, etc. The key to AJ is its part of Shaykh Hamad’s mechanisms to play the Game of Nations. As long as he plays along, its okay that AJ broadcasts may oppose American interests.
And the American plan for the Gulf has been application of global liberal capitalism: deregulation and uniformity to comply with globalization. And as the economic transition has occurred, AJ has served as an ideological bridge that transcends the state controlled media AND the foreign media, offering a conceptualization of Arab secular ideology which transcends. America has sought political and cultural changes in the Gulf and Arab countries in order to bring forth greater secularization and compliance with Western concepts: civil society, etc.

Umar is right: AJ is Not about Islam. Its about secularization. And Qatar is playing the game accordingly.

AJ has served to support the idea of Arab secularization and democratization without the government and nationalist regimes.

As well, journalism is a byproduct of Western social sciences which emerged from Western secular enlightenment. Thus, it defines Islam as a “religion” in the social science, Western idea. Thus, it is distinct from “politics”.

AJEnglish is more geared towards secularization according to Western standards as its audience is english speaking and presumedly Western oriented. Its common for AJE to have NO correlation with Islam whatsoever, despite the FACT that AJ and AJE are funded by the revenue of natural resources that belong to the Muslim Ummah.

And Allah knows best.
