In recent times, I have come to know issues which I previously held to be wrong and something made up by the Salafis in contradiction to the 4 Madhahib. However, now I find out that these issues are actually ok according to the Hanbali Madhab.

A case in question is this socks issue. I have always understood according to the Fatawas of Mufti Ebrahim Desai, Mufti Taqi Usmani, and others that the wiping over contemporary socks is not permissible and Salah behind such an Imam is not valid. However, now I find out that many contemporary socks do actually satisfy the criteria of the Hanbali Madhab. I am sure there are other similar issues too.

This leads me to think: what's all the fuss about regarding the Salafis when it seems that some of their 'controversial' viewpoints are actually sourced from the Hanbali Madhab?? I might be wrong about this but this is what I am kind of feeling right now...

I have always had a habit of repeating my prayer IF I know for SURE that the Imam has made Masah over his regular socks. However, in light of the conditions of the Hanbali Madhab, what do I do now? Considering the fact that a majority of the Salafi-minded people do this, can I just trust them in following these conditions (which I think they do not). In any case, being a Hanafi, I don't think my Salah would be valid behind a person who has done Masah over regular socks; be they according to the conditions of the Hanbali Madhab or not...
