Asslamo Allaikum Hadhrat Soofi Saheb,
No disrespect intended but I believe that you are incorrect in the standing up bit as:
a) The same condition is mentioned for Ihraam & I have yet to come across an Ihraam that stands on its own. I was told this by Maulana Marghoob Ahmed (Bradford, UK) who is a close companion of Mufti Yusuf Sacha....Maulana Marghoob Ahmed further said that none of the Ulama in Yorkshire have been able to answer this query therefore it is forwarded to Mufti Rafi Usmani to explain as to how "A sock can stand on its own?" As you know that I don't have access to brothers section else I can provide Maulana's & Mufti Yusuf Sacha's contact details to confirm.
b) Most leather socks do not stand on their own as the material is thin and flimsy so would that make Mas'ah null & void?
c) The socks used by Syrian & Russian Hanafees which are presented as an example of socks on which Mas'ah is permissable are made from really hard reinfoced cotton and they are very durable (to withstand Russian winter conditions) and even they don't stand as a shoe....I sepcially made a point to investigate this matter after a graduate of Darul-uloom Bury gave me this as an example...Please note that these are sold in Mina by Russian Hajees!
Please double check with Mufti Ibraheem Desai Saheb.
P.S: I have yet to come across a practical example of a sock on which Masah can be done (from the past or present) from Hanafi Ulama who continousy say, "Masah cannot be done on Modern-day Socks"...I say fine; give me an example and all I get is silence in return.
