i find that comment slightly offensive towards Imam Malik

there was no right or wrong in the related incident, simply it showed the different methodology and how they respected each other.

Your comment makes it seem Imam Abu Hanifah was somehow higher than Imam Malik

if this story is true, then surely it shows how the Imams of the schools used different methodologies to derive rulings and that place, environment etc does have an effect when deriving rulings and not a blankett approach.
I haven't elevated Imam Abu Hanifah (ra) over Imam Malik (ra) at all .

When people debate they usually have strong inclinations regarding their own views. They will stand firm on their views and argue as much as they can. Usually even if the other side has a valid point they'll dismiss it if it means saving face. That is what happens in debates let's be honest. Just seeing what happens here on SF is enough to prove my point!

Looking at the article, Imam Malik (ra) when given another viewpoint by Imam Abu Hanifah (ra) he is taking on a differing opinion albeit valid which has been presented with evidence. It's been justified. His humility allows him to accept that. Tells you a lot about his Ikhlaas too.

Anyway, that's what I gathered from it.
