i have been told that nails have an association with the nails -

is this true?

does this mean that women should not keep their nails long?

also, when cutting nails, should you cut them in the bathroom only?

Nails have no association with nails.
Both men and women should keep their nails short and cut them on Thursday (preferrably).
There is no specific Sunnah method of cutting your nails
You should NOT cut your nails in the "Toilet" as it is only for "essential business" and then leave as soon as its done. There is no specific Sunnah place for cutting your nails.
It is best and preferred to bury your hair and nails
