im in sheffield and i know masjid umar, is there some sufi lessons and things happening there?
Ws,

There is a dhikr majlis that takes place there on a Thursday night between Maghrib and I'sha.

Colonel Hardstone was warned against the group that are leading the program.

PLEASE NOTE: Shaykh/Moulana Shua'yb Desai is NOT part of this group but he allows them to have there sessions in a sideroom in the masjid.

I have personally spoken to him in the past about Tassawuf (in general and NOT about the particular group CS has warned against) and his position (from what I understood) is that he respects the fact that people are trying to become closer to Allah through these means and as long as they are not doing anything expicitly against the Quran & Sunnah he lets them get on with it.

His own stance is that he prefers the general adhkars found clearly established through the practice of the Prophet SAW as oposed to following a particular Tariqah.

There is collective dhikr for about 10 minutes everyday before maghrib in the masjid. My be it's best for you to go and see for yourself.

Masha Allah the masjid is not rigid in any one particullar outlook, Salafis, Sufis, Bralewis, etc, All attend due to the very open and accepting environment Shaykh Shu'ayb has created there (bi idhnillah).

ie. Shaykh Awadullah al-Azhari from Mnchester will be leading the Jummah today at the new building.
