I think there is nothing wrong with watching a sports game once in a while, as long as all haraam things are avoided. After all, didn't the Prophet and his wife Aaisha watch a group of Ethiopians practicing with their spears in the Masjid?

exactly but one said that watching anything for entertainment or playing it for entertainment is wrong if its not done for the sake of Allah or for the cause of jihad.
