My question is if anyone knows the origins of these deviant beliefs. Any Iraqis? Is this a particular cultural thing?

there is a sect that believe in the idea that when a sin is committed then there is no forgiveness for it. I remember seeing it but i just cant remember which one it is. But its a very very small sect and so i doubt he'd heard it from them.

He's probably just built up the idea from misunderstanding and general ignorance.
