Default The World and man
Here they are: wealth, fame, and being loved by people. This is the happiness of the disbeliever and hypocrite. Their ultimate goals and wishes are to achieve their own whims and desires, by having lots of wealth, lots of fame, and being loved by lots of people. And if they don’t achieve this, they see it as the end of their lives. They find no meaning in their lives anymore, and they become sad to such extend that they fall into Depression and even go mad; and as a result of that, they end up in a mental Hospital!

Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they mock at those who believe. But those who obey Allâh's Orders and keep away from what He has forbidden, will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allâh gives (of His Bounty, Blessings, Favours, Honours, etc. on the Day of Resurrection) to whom He wills without limit. (Qur’an 2:212)

Ad-Darda (radiyallahu anhu) said: “Everyone falls short of his wisdom and knowledge sometimes. If this life brought him an increase in money, he becomes happy and elated. Meanwhile, the nights and the days keep decreasing his life term, but he does not become sad on account of this decrease. What good will the increases in wealth bring, when the life-term is ever decreasing?” (As-Siyar, vol.19, p.483)

Yahya bin Muadh said: “I am amazed at he who grieves when he suffers a loss in wealth; why does he not grieve for the loss in his life term, as well?” (Life is a Fading Shadow, by Abdul-Malik Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman al-Qasim, p.41 [English translated version])
Al-Hasan said: “He whose wealth increases, his sins increase, and he whose speech multiplies, his lies multiply. He whose conduct becomes harsher, torments his own self.” (Kitab-us-Samt, p.85)

Allah (swt) says: Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life; but Allâh has the excellent return (Paradise) with Him. (Qur’an 3:14)

Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds, that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope. (Qur’an 18:46)

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, hypocrites, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment. (Qur’an 57:20)

Allah (swt) makes it clear that: the life of this world (is) but amusement and play? But verily the Home in the Hereafter,- that is (the true) life indeed, if they but knew. (Qur’an 29:64)
Have you then no sense of mind? The life of this world and its pleasures are just amusement and play in the eyes of the disbeliever and hypocrite. How foolish you are if you consider it the same!

All that you can see in this world is an illusion and for a short time. The city which you live in, this car that you are driving, this house that you build, these people that claim to love you and care about you, these clothes that you’re dressing with, these animals that you possess, your wealth that you gained, your status among the people, your food that you’re eating, etc. All that will vanish one day. They will vanish on the day you die. That day you’ll forget whatever you achieved in this world, whatever you saw in this world, and whatever you enjoyed in this world. And once you are resurrected; you will be accounted for all that. What good will they be, all those things with which you enjoyed in this life, on the Day of Judgment?

Therefore, the world is just a dream; which will soon end and in which a man wakes up from it once he dies. You will wake up and realize the Truth, which is: you have wasted your time believing the dream is a reality. And then; you will understand that: Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing). (Qur’an 3:185)

Consequently, the wealth that you possess is granted to you as a loan by Allah (swt). And He (swt) wants it back from you; by your obedience to Him (swt) and being grateful to Him (swt).
It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allaah said: 'Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.'" (Bukhari)
Ibn Mas’ud (raduyAllahu ‘anhu) was right when he said: “Everyone in this life is a guest whose wealth is a loan he took; the guest is bound to leave and give back what he took as a loan.” (Life is a Fading Shadow, by Abdul-Malik Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman al-Qasim, p.37 [English translated version])

Allah (swt) gave you this loan; so that you can earn His Mercy with it, by giving it to the poor, and by spending it in all possible Halal ways. But instead you earn His Anger, by being greedy for more wealth; robbing the poor, and spending it in all possible Haram ways!
Al-Hasan was once asked about, who will be screaming in horror the most on the Day of Judgment, meaning from Allah’s torment. He said: “A man whom Allah had granted bounties, which he used in disobedience of Allah.” (Al-Hasan Al Basri, p.47)
Allah (swt) says: And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allâh has bestowed on them of His Bounty (Wealth) think that it is good for them. Nay, it will be worse for them; the things which they covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allâh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allâh is Well¬Acquainted with all that you do. (Qur’an 3:180)

And Allah (swt) says: Whatever of mercy (i.e.of good), Allâh may grant to mankind, none can withhold it, and whatever He may withhold, none can grant it thereafter. And He is the All*Mighty, the All*Wise. (Qur’an 35:2)
So, if Allah (swt) wants He can take these bounties away from you; but the Almighty says to you that: whatever you have been given is an enjoyment of the life of (this) world and its adornment, and that (Hereafter) which is with Allâh is better and will remain forever. Have you then no sense? (Qur’an 28:60) and

Where is your sense of mind? You call yourself a man of understanding yet you are driven away from the straight path by your own whims and desires for: wealth, fame, and being loved by people. And know that: Whatever you are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. (Qur’an 42:36)

Your hunger for wealth and fame will only bring you closer to your Destruction! The one who is honored is the one who works his entire life in this world to please Allah (swt) and earn His Mercy.
And to Allah (swt) belongs all Praise and Thanks.
Abu Hurairah (radhiyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) was asked, “Who are the most honorable of the people?” The Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “The most honorable of them in Allah’s Sight are those who keep their duty to Allah and fear Him…” (Bukhari)
But to the disbelievers and hypocrites: It will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)! (Qur’an 26:207)
They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world, and they are heedless of the Hereafter. (Qur’an 30:7)
Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). (Qur’an 15:13)

That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. And Allâh guides not the people who disbelieve. They are those upon whose hearts, hearing (ears) and sight (eyes) Allâh has set a seal. And they are the heedless! No doubt, in the Hereafter, they will be the losers. (Qur’an 16:107-109)

Then: Is he whom We have promised an excellent promise (Paradise), which he will find true, like him whom We have made to enjoy the luxuries of the life of (this) world, then on the Day of Resurrection, he will be among those brought up (to be punished in the Hell-fire)? (Qur’an 28:61)

Al-Hasan said while describing the life of this world: “This life is good for the believer. He works little (i.e. he is moderate in performing acts of worship), and takes enough provisions with him to Paradise. This life is bad for the disbeliever and the hypocrite, for he wastes his nights in it and the only provisions he collects from it, is being directed to the Fire.” (Jami’ul-Ulum wal-Hikam, p.360)

Al Hasan was right, because it is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “May he be miserable, the worshipper of the Dinar and dirham, and the worshipper of the striped silk cloak. If he is given anything, he is satisfied; but if not, he is unsatisfied”. (Bukhari)
“Two hungry wolves sent in the midst of a flock of sheep are no more destructive to them than a man’s greed for wealth and fame is to his Deen.’‘ [Tirmidhi]

Those who prefer the life of this world instead of the Hereafter, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allâh (i.e.Islâm) and seek crookedness therein - They are far astray. (Qur’an 14:3)
Say: "Enjoy (your brief life)! But certainly, your destination is the (Hell) Fire!" (Qur’an 14:30)

Know that wealth is only a big trial for you. Fame is only a way to your Destruction. And seeking and depending from the love of people is foolish and hypocritical. Purify your intention, because Allah (swt) says: They (the believers) say to them (the people), “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah - we do not seek any reward or thanks from you. Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” (Qur’an 76:9-10)

Be just and do not ask for people’s love or thanks, because: Among the people there are some who say, 'We believe in Allah and the Last Day,' when they are not believers. (Qur'an 2:8)
They think they deceive Allah and those who believe. They deceive no one but themselves but they are not aware of it. (Qur'an 2:9)

The Almighty gives you the truth about the bounties that are given to such people, saying : So let not their wealth or their children amaze you; in reality Allâh's Plan is to punish them with these things in the life of the this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers. (Qur’an 9:55)
Let not the free disposal (and affluence) of the disbelievers throughout the land deceive you. A brief enjoyment; then, their ultimate abode is Hell; and worst indeed is that place for rest. (Qur’an 3:196-197)

Allah gives wealth to some, and leaves poor some. But do not grieve: O you true believer; do not be jealous or desire their wealth, or fame; because remember Allah’s saying that He (swt) leaves them to enjoy: So as to be ungrateful for the graces which We have bestowed on them. Then enjoy (your short life); but you will come to know. (Qur’an 30:34)
Nay! You shall come to know! Again, Nay! You shall come to know! Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things)(Qur’an 102:3-5)

But you, O (true) Muslim; you know very well that: the best provision is At-Taqwa (piety, righteousness, etc.). So fear Me, O men of understanding! (Qur’an 2:197)

It is all a Master Plan by Allah (swt).
Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever with Allâh (of good deeds) will remain. And those who are patient, We will certainly pay them a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do. (Qur’an 16:96)
And know that your possessions (wealth) and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allâh is a mighty reward. (Qur’an 8:28)
That He might justify Truth and prove Falsehood false, distasteful though it be to those in guilt. (Qur’an 8:8)
Whatever Allah (swt) gave you in this life is a trial; so do not enjoy it, except in a Halal way. Be pleased with the wealth that you have and do not desire for more; except what is meant for you. If you want fame, then seek to be famous in Allah’s (swt) Eyes; and be one of His highly honored slaves, who earned His Pleasure and Mercy. If you want to be loved, than seek to earn Allah’s Love for you. Fulfill your purpose which Allah (swt) created you to worship Him; this means being grateful to Him by obeying the Exalted in all matters, seeking only His Pleasure at all times. Muhammad bin Al-Hanfiyah said: “Every aspect with which one does not seek Allah’s Face alone, is bound to diminish.” (Hilyatul-Awliya, vol.3, p.176)

Wealth, and all that you possess, are nothing but trials for you; except the deeds which you do for Allah (swt). Open your eyes; and realize that the only true wealth in this life is knowledge and sincere Iman.
Ibn Qayim said: The one who loves the life of this world and prefers it to the life is the lowest of creation and the least intelligent. Such a person prefers illusion to reality. Whoever is preoccupied with this life, Allah will make poverty apparent in his eyes, and whoever is preoccupied with the next life, Allah will place wealth within his heart. (Ibn Qayim, Al-Madaarijus-Saalikeen)

And he said: If we know that what Allah has will remain, and that the life to come is better and more lasting, then we realize that the life of this world is really like a piece of ice left out in the sun, it soon melts and vanishes. The next life however never vanishes. We must learn to withdraw from the life of this world, even though we may still have a great desire from it in our hearts (Ibn Qayim, Al-Madaarijus-Saalikeen)

It is narrated Uqba (radiyAllahu ‘anhu): One day the Prophet went out and offered the (funeral) prayer for the people (i.e. martyrs) of Uhud as he used to offer a funeral prayer for any dead person, and then (after returning) he ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness upon you, and I am looking at my Tank just now, and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the world (or the keys of the world). By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah after me, but I am afraid that you will compete with each other for (the pleasures of) this world." (Bukhari)

On the authority of ‘Umar (radiyAllahu ‘anhu), who said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) reported for His Lord saying: “O man! Although you have enough for your living, you demand that which makes you insolent. In fact; you are neither content with little, nor satisfied with much. Certainly, if you get sound in your body, safe in your life, and living having sufficient food for one day, (then) anything else is unimportant.” (Ibn ‘Adiyy and El-Bayhaqi)
On the authority of Abul-Darda (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) and Muadh Ibn Jabal (radiyAllahu ‘anhu), who said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) reported his Lord as saying: “Myself, the jinn and mankind are in great tiding. Despite the fact that I have created (the Universe) others are worshipped. And despite the fact that I give sustenance, others are rendered thanks. “ (Al Bayhaqi, Al Hakim, Al Daylami and Ibn Asakir)

It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “What do I have to do with this life? The parable of me and this life is the parable of a rider who rested in the shade of a tree and then departed.” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim, and Albanee rendered it authentic)
