Is it a condition for the Imam to be from Quraysh? - Shaykh al-Islam Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani - http://deoband.org/2010/07/general/p...-from-quraysh/
Salam Aleykum,

Thing is the people won't disagree on the Caliph if he was from Quraysh and if we could elect one from the Mouhajirun today it'd be even better since there is an agreement about their high virtue...

Although in Sahih Muslim and other books we find Hadiths such as these,

Book 020, Number 4475:
It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: People are the followers of Quraish in good as well as evil (i. e. in the customs of Islamic as well as pre-Islamic times).

Book 020, Number 4476:
It has been narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The Caliphate will remain among the Quraish even if only two persons are left (on the earth)

I personally think that if the Caliphate was given to an Indonesian, the Pakistanis and the Indians and the Malaysians ect... they will be jealous, heck they might even start to fight over it and might start overthrowing eachother, they are definitely no better than the Ansars... I believe it is best that the Caliphate be with a pure Qurashy Arab from Ahlul-Bayt.

That's just a personal opinion as I said and I claim no consensus on this matter or anything else... just worth considering that's all.
