Please read my link. It clearly describes the context 'past times'. It is irrlevant if the questioner is satisfied or not. Our response should always be the same even the intention of the questionire is wrong. If the nature takes a confrontational overture, then one can even easily defend this by sighting their own scriputure.
I remember doing this plenty of times and remember one catholic telling me we muslim follows more of their relegion then the christian themselves. Hence I say our action is more akin to Jesus Practices then todays average christian.
There is also concensus of the nature of the sins. One must use all the avenue and finally say We are muslim those who submit. The method of submission for muslim is examplified by the prophet. Just you idealise football star in game, we TRY to follow our prophet out of respect and love.
Assalaam'aaleykum!

Brother Nomadic,

Bolded part of your reply would defy all sort of questions or criticism from Non-Muslims in the very first place. Logical reasons and explanations given after that would hold stronger meaning than ever before.

In case of Br. Alqurtabi, he can explain by saying that we regard prophet Muhammad (saw) as our highest role model and we aim to follow him in every aspect of his life. Wearing trouser above the ankle is one such action, which he not only exemplified but also instructed us to do the same. Now, one of the reason behind this COULD be that Clothes which hang below the ankles or drag on the floor are prone to gather numerous impurities from the road. And since we pray five times a day, we take great care in keeping ourselves free from any sort of impurities. Thus, we wear trousers above the ankles.

You can end up by saying that even if we (Muslims) had failed to realise this reason, then His (saw) instruction was enough for us to act upon.
