Did they pay for his flight and transporation and stay?

For the Aqeedah course, I'm not sure how that was setup. I remember him having to go check venues though back when we were in Toronto in February.

One way or another, the speakers should be compensated for their expenses incurred at least. Anything more than that is between the organizers and the speakers.

For example, I went for the Stairs to Bliss conference in Toronto earlier this year, not as a speaker but rather as a guest with Shaykh Nabeel Khan Sahib who spoke there and hotel and food was arranged by the organizers. For the speakers, airfare was also covered.

Perhaps if you or your community cannot cover the costs for certain speakers, then you can ask more local individuals.
