There was a saheeh hadith that once the prophet was asked several questions
''can a believer be a coward?'' the prophet replied ''YES''
''can a believer be a miser?'' the prophet replied ''YES''
''can a believer be a liar?'' the prophet replied ''NO''

Please check the wordings of the hadith again. The Prophet(saws) replied "Yes" to whether a believer could be a coward and a liar and "No" to whether he could be a miser. Perhaps one of the 'Ulama on the forum can help.
