Telling teachers is a bad idea, only because nowadays teachers won't do anything to discipline the kid. He'll get a slap on the wrist, and OP will get a reputation as a snitch, which will make things even worse for him. If you feel that fighting is barbaric, just humiliate him with words. Ask him loud and clear in front of everybody what his problem is with you. If he doesn't have a good answer, he'll end up looking like a tool- you win.
