muslimah, are you doing it from university or through home study? Primary or secondary? A few of the apas at our madrasah are also doing PGCE's with niqab. All three do primary so they remove it in the classroom and in and around school and put it on again before they walk out of the school gates. I think it is quite a lot to ask, if you are hoping to wear niqab in and around a state school. Don't end up like the other high profile cases.

The other option is to go to Muslim schools for a placement. One of my students is doing hers at a local Muslim school. There's probably some criteria of acceptable schools but it's something to look into. I pray it works out well for you.
I'm doing degree though home study with the Open University and intend to apply for pgce through them.
My plan is to teach secondary but being in this predicament, i am not too sure of it.I certainly don't want to be categorised as a 'high profile case', Allah forbid.
I've had a cursory glance at the criteria and it says it has to be a mixture.Sadly, all the placements can't be faith school based.
I'm not applying yet so until then i'll have to study the ins and outs of the criteria and see if there's any loopholes.
Though,Aapa I hope you wouldn't mind if I come to you to ask questions on my behalf to your student, please?
