I'm pretty sure Google is going to make an app for it.

I honestly don't see what motivation Google would have for doing so. It's not their phone system/OS and I don't see how it would be beneficial for Google to invest resource into developing, releasing, and maintaining an app to enhance a competitors device for free.

Google stating that they are not releasing an app for the iPhone does not surprise me one bit.
