Alonso had not business fighting off Perez - Alonso needs points - a puncture/broken nose etc would have ruined Alonso's race and damaged his title chance further.

Massa's case for fighting off Perez is a seat at Ferrari.

Alonso didn't have the pace to fight off Perez even if he wanted and would have been taken just as easily as Massa was. Massa still needs every point for Ferrari and had no business fighting Perez either, it would only have ended up in a crash or Perez passing him, so your point is mute. Think back to Hamilton fighting Maldonado and replace it with Massa, Ferrari would not have liked that at all. As it was, Ferrari are happy.
