I'm old school and I consider being called honey a term of endearment, at least it was that way with my many vacations in the south. Also, I have a hunch the ally they were talking about is Israel. UK also felt snubbed when Obama returned the bust of Churchill.

Churchill bust= we discussed this many moons ago and most of us decided this was BS. The bust was on loan to a previous admin. Obama returned it. Nuff said.

Israel= Here's where opinion really comes into play. I do not consider Israel one of our best allies. To me, they are more like the snot nosed little brother who constantly ticks off everyone in the neighborhood then runs home to hide behind you. Ssly, what has Israel done for us lately?
