Very suprised nobody has mentioned Kurosawa's Heaven and Earth
Ah I was just about to mention it, it is without a doubt my favourite war movie. The camera work in that movie was simply amazing, and the musical score was beautiful.

I think I'm gonna watch it again now. *runs off to find the tape*
