If my opinion counts, here'll be my suggestions...

A. If the futuristic one is used, can it just be the text alone with that font, but without the men-gane graphic. The way it is right now doesn't fit too well...

B. Either that, or pick one of the elements from the previous version, and make it into a kamon/logo thing or something. The poppy or the stars will do quite well, if you manage to pick good colors that shows better on other kendo items (like keikogi...)

Personally I like that pie with a mis-aligned poppy print. Looks very Andy Warhol.
