New England is very nice - and safe, too. No hurricanes to speak of, no earthquakes, tornados, volcanos, grizzlies, mountain lions, poisonous lizards or snakes, etc. You get warm summers and cold winters - you can be at the beach in June and on the slopes in December. Lots of forested land and some sizable peaks for climbing. And Boston is nice.

The Southwest is also pretty neat - I've been impressed by Albuquerque and Tuscon. And California is the default "nice state".

As far as SC is concerned, well, I thought it was pretty boring when I drove through it (once). But that was just a drive through, eh? Maybe I'm wrong.
