Many places close down for the Holidays because either their members are all doing family stuff, going on trips, just taking a break, or the location that facilitates the practices closes so there is no place to practice. If your dojo is considering whether to close or not, just take a poll... if there are enough people who want to practice and who will actually show up, hold the practice. If not, then don't.
I always feel like holidays are better times to hold practice, if not extra practices. Those are the times when people actually have more time to go, instead of the typical rushing in from work or school and squeezing practice into an already busy schedule. I understand that kendo is not life and family is important, but if there is time to practice, then by all means practice.
