in answer to the original question. i too have long hair. ive allways had split ends, so this has never caused a problem.

the problem was that my bobble was right where i tied my men-grrg.

anyways, i used to plait mine to keep it out of the way. many koreans and japanese just leave theirs loose though.

i did have it in thin braids for a while. this meant i didnt have the bobble problem and it could be down without being in the way.

try experimenting.
