Animal sacrifice is the ritual killing and offering of an animal, usually as part of a religious ritual or to appease or maintain the favor of a deity. Animal sacrifice was common throughout Europe and the ancient Near East before the spread of Christianity in late antiquity and continues in some cultures and religions today. The attitude to this, of course, is different. Personally, as a visitor to the Pentecostal Church, I do not welcome this at all. But I am clearly aware that every religion has its own peculiarities.
