Hehe, I think the main reason I appeciate stuff like that is that it's satire of *me* in a way, because I've been there. I've been a part of a lot of deviant or outcast social groups, D&Ders among them.

But even though I laugh at myself that way, I've never regretted being a true freak my whole life, in one way or another. There are those who call me a freak for being as serious about kendo as I am (which really isn't all that serious compared to some). It's all a matter of perspective I suppose.

However, I tend to believe that in letting your freak flag fly, you have reached out to some kind of contrast (ahh, abstraction, the mother of being, at least in the human consciousness) against the apathy and blandness that seem to blind us to seeing the satisfaction and happiness in this life that are all around us. The way of the freak has it's own pitfalls, to be sure, but I guess it's the one I've always chosen, many times without even realizing it until later on.
