I had to stop almost entirely for about three years in total, due to college. I was able to resume consistant practice a few months ago and was well aware of the rust I had built up. The only thing I found as being effective was practicing more. So, I practiced 4-5 times a week instead of the 1-2 I had formerly done. Consistant effort and doing exactly what my sensei told me to do did the trick after those few months. I really don't think there's a 'quick' way. Obviously, mine was an exaggerated case, but it only lends to the idea that hard work and time are the only way to chip off any rust.
