If you dislike spider, Japan is not a good place to live.
About spider, some Japanese people are thinking they are house kami, and bringing good fortune.
I agree with this idea very much.
To a point.

I'm afraid of spiders, but strangely enough I would like to see one or two in the apartment. I would probably give the the vacuum-cleaning treatment

but as they are a sign of a healthy house it would be nice to have seen them. I'm always worrying about mould.

Oh, and I was also told by a friend that a person on average swallows 3 spiders during their life. This supposedly happens when we are asleep and they are climbing our faces.
