You run into a cultural hiccup there right? I mean American schoolkids have a tendency to blow each other away with assault rifles every so often so I'd imagine there would be a lot more controversy surrounding an American version than the original Japanese one.

Yeah, the concept wouldn't be nearly as novel in North American terms, I mean, there have been lots of films about average people being coerced into participating in some sort of homicidal "game", the shock with BR was the age of the participants.

That kind of loses it's effect when kids are killing each other in real life.
