Not sure about the international drivers licence. I used a UK one and they were cool with that (for a $30,000 convertible!). I am also certain that the US drives on the wrong side of the road.

If you like to get out and about, I can also recommend the drive between Vegas and San Diego. Include Coachella, Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park to the list too.
