Find you self one of these: http://www.bogubag.com/Swords/Bokutoh/bokutoh.html

Or one of these:

Either way your just going to look like a fool so go find an Iaido dojo or some thing .
Just because a bokuto doesn't have a blade, doesn't mean it's not lethal. Just ask Sasaki Kojiro.

And as for a Chambara bat, those can't be used for self defence. The only form of armor that those people wear are those plastic masks, and that's just to protect their eyes.

Look, Tachikawa, I'm gonna give you props for admitting off the bat that you want to show off. I'm gonna guess that you're just a kid with a wall hanger who saw some samurai movie or something and got curious. Nothing wrong with that. Atleast you asked for some advice straight up, instead of claiming to be one of these self-taught, back yard ninjers. Again, props.

Please excuse some of the replies that you've gotten, and are sure to get in the near future. It's just that we get alot of people coming on to these boards claiming that they're the next Musashi, when they don't know squat-diddley about how to handle a sword. As a result, alot of the members have a tendency to become hostile to some people.

To answer your original question, no, there are no non-lethal styles of Japanese swordsmanship. Like Paikea said, it's hard to be non-lethal with a four-foot long razer blade. If you want to learn a non-lethal form of self defense, take up Judo or Karatedo.

If you still want to learn a Japanese sword art, there's always Kendo and Iaido.
