Sugawara Bunta? All I remember him from were the Yakuza Paper films...art house....french art house...that sounds like don't eat the boiled egg realm of the senses type movies...

Actually, "Hiroshima mon Amour" is a French art house film set in Japan and featuring a Japanese male lead, and "Realm" was produced by a French studio, I believe. So, yeah, it's not unheard of.
