I have problems with people killing animals like that... yes we eat cows and what not, but the killing of our food is generally quick and relatively painless. ....

Yep the killing is quick, but large animals (cows, pigs, sheep) are shipped by the truckload and trainload to the slaughterhouse and guess what ?
They can smell blood, they can hear the other closer animals, they do know full well what is happening.
and
Sometimes it is one or two * * DAYS * * before it is their turn.
Think about it.

and yes, no argument from me on the population control, locusts.
