Mother told us a few years back about somethings she learned about being a parent.
My father's side of the family only knows how to yell at eachother, they love eachother, but just don't get along becuase they can't communicate, because growing up thats how the grandparents were, lots of fighting and yelling.
...so dad was like that quite a bit, lots of yelling and stuff, very angry, I remeber getting up in the middle of the night and I would hear him yelling, angry about something, so i'd go sit in the hallway and listen to it,mom was always quiet, and i'd cry about that.
never knew why my mother never really fought back untill she told us, when my older sister was very small and learning how to talk, she was getting my dad for a phone call and she said " MXXX LXX! telephone! MXXX LXX! telephone!". and my sister repeated it word for word, and my mom realized that we were going to learn whatever we grew up around, so she said she kept quiet so that my dad would not have a reason to continue yelling. he'd run his course blow off his steam, and atleast we wouldn't be caught up in the yelling and stuff. she didn't want up to grow up in an environment where the only way we knew how to talk to eachother was through fighting.
gotta love mom.
