I can definitely see how it could seem pretentious.

My point was that the desire to win awards or other special merit is not why I personally practice Kendo.
For example, one of the members mentioned that the Fighting Spirit award to was known as the "pity prize". While it may be true to some people, I guess I just cannot agree with that assessment. It somehow leaves a bad taste.
Yes, It does feel good to get awards, but I have to ask of myself my motivations for wanting such awards.
At the end of the day, I practice Kendo because I wish to be a better person.
I do not wish to say that to think oppositely is bad.
Perhaps as the other member stated, I'll feel differently if I win a few.
Right now this is where I am with that.
