I think that the main characters aspiration to become such a good Kendoka is that his family was savagely killed by a bamboo chute. Oh, also the main character has to have some sort of deficiency and he has to overcome it. I suggest humpback. Also there should be a tough guy rival who's really good at Kendo but lacks respect and stuff. He needs a very ornate and flamboyant bogu.
