Most strange, is that I was not aware that there are any Jinjya outside of Japan?

There are shrines in other countries, including the USA.

Interesting blog (I just skimmed it). She talks about preferring not to use the term Shinto because of negative connotations. Still, I can't tell you whether all this is genuine or not.
