Interesting article. I would have liked about four more years of study, ten times as large of a sample size, and about that many more footnotes too. But it was very interesting.

On a related note, at the highest levels of Kendo competition do the judges get graded? Are there sports commentators in Japan that criticize certain judges like we do NBA or NFL refs? I would guess the answer to both is no, that they are very high rank and not subject to criticism, but maybe I am wrong on that.
