I don't want to accuse all English people of acting rude or snotty toward Americans because some are very pleasant, but after seven weeks I've come to the conclusion that sometime in grade school English children are taught to equate 'stupid' with 'American.' Yes, we are arguably louder and more demanding, but that doesn't mean we're all ignorant. Interestingly enough, British radios blare American pop music, televisions broadcast American t.v. shows and the movies play American flicks. If we're so dumb, why do you cherish our popular culture? And one last thing: any country that manufactures the Spice Girls shouldn't throw stones at glass houses ... Touche!, or should I say Ippon?. Unfortunately there are stereotypes everywhere, so you are not alone. I have been studying and living abroad for many years I have suffered them again and again.
Every time I see a documentary/T.V. program about anything to do with Spain I brace myself to the usual flurry of statements such as "The spanish contractors/hotel staff/etc have a relaxed approach to deadlines, is not in their their culture, bla bla...",
This is absolute and utter b*ll, are builders, electricians, etc, any more realiable in the UK, France, or any other country?, well, my expereince tells me otherwise (and I don't mean to offend anyone).
On the other hand you are better off resigning yourself and having a sense of humour about it, if you use it to your advantage it can be very entertaining
Now, after that outburst I'll just get on my donkey to sing some flamenco while I finish my tapas
