hmm well my opinion, which is worth two cents, is to be yourself and respond to her generosity as you would to any other person. I know with my wife it got old to her that people would respond to her generosity in some sort of Japanese way. Pretty much she's in America & I'm betting, like my wife when she first arrived, will be interested in thing about the US she doesn't know or understand. I remember when a lady took my wife to eat at a unique BBQ Shack with southern style BBQ Ribs--the happiness on her face was priceless!

As for being friends, just be friends as you would with anyone else. ^_^
