The wax is there to prevent splinters plus you can just whipe the smudges off, no big deal. I find it worse when people touch up their black men rim with markers and then my Shinai get black stripes on them... cause those you cannot get off unless you sand them off.

Plus there's nothing more fun than to put smudges on someone who just got a shiny new do!
