1) The "masks" and "gloves" are for use with shinai. I doubt it's possible to claim whether they will stand up to other materials, or whether the "ploycarbon plastic unbreakable" will stand up to them (since you say they are lighter).

2) Beware of splintering and sharp edges.

3) Get insurance of some sort.
