I hardly think bonfire night is an example of interlorance - for one thing most people these days are unaware of its origins. Its a very interesting period of our history, the 17th century being very unsettled. Just 30 years later the country was plunged into a bloody civil war. I'm not so sure it is appropriate to look back 400 years with 20th century attitudes and judge.

For most people its just an excuse to go out and have a good time and watch a good firework display.
