And you are right in some respects-the jail garb he was wearing could also denote inmates making a court appearance-for security reasons....

Another thing-he was dressed in swat gear with a gas mask-just how many people could actually point him out as the shooter>?

Re federal judge: have no idea as I grew weary of the 24/7 coverage and only tune in when I think there's actually something new being reported.

Re different garb for court security reasons: good possibility (see note added to post above)

Re id'ing shooter: I doubt anyone could point him out as the shooter. It's a good guess that the best eye-witness id will be from the person who saw him leave under the pretense of making/taking a cell phone call. Combine that with the police who can id him as being the one they apprehended at his vehicle w/ the guns & gear in his possession immediately after the shooting, ballistics evidence that will probably prove the guns in his possession at the time of apprehension are the same ones used in the shooting, and a myriad of other evidence that will be gleaned during the investigation, and it will probably add up to a very convincing case.
