Ok do the following:

Start -> Control Panel > Administrative Tools -> Services

Right click the "Automatic Updates" service and click stop

navigate to C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\ (note its a hidden folder)

Delete all contents

Start the above service again. The SoftwareDistribution folder will auto-repopulate and re-catalog what updates are required.
Thanks Nline! So far so good! Must have been a hang-up that caused the so-called 'system flaw'. No worries now, or so it seems. Thanks a lot for looking into that for me. It was never a problem so to speak, just more and annoyance. I do appreciate it.
