Gov. Scott held a budget signing event Thursday in the town square of The Villages, a conservative enclave of mostly white, very Republican retirees. Although orchestrated to appear as a public event, the entire show was paid for and staged by the state Republican Party.

Scott's staffers, noticing dissenters holding anti-Scott signs, instructed Citrus County sheriff deputies to remove the nay-sayers, which they did. School children were bussed in and provided "homemade signs" created by the Scott staff. On cue, the children were instructed to chant the Scott mantra, "Let's get to work," for the press and supporters in attendance.

When asked by the press why dissenters were removed, one staff member on Friday stated the Scott staff has no knowledge or responsibility for the removal and that the event was a public event. The following day, another spokesman stated that the event was private and that the anti-Scott attendees were escorted out at the request of Scott staff members.

Kim Jong-il would have only insisted the press would have been shot before the event began.
