I haven't heard anyone call for tax increases as the only step in fixing the problem.

Nope, nobody has. In fact, the most-voiced approach is to close loopholes, eliminate a host of deductions and ultimately lower tax rates to everyone while still collecting more revenue as a result of the eliminated revenue diversions.
