Democrat Kathy Hochul is leading by four points in a new poll in the 26th Congressional District, which has been represented for years by Republicans and was carried by the Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, in 2008.

Hochul, the Erie County clerk, has the support of 35 percent of voters, while Assemblywoman Jane Corwin, a Republican, has the support of 31 percent of voters, according to the survey of 1,048 likely voters.

"It's certainly a toss up and it's close to being a three-way toss-up," said Public Policy Polling Director Tom Jensen.

Jensen was referring to Republican Jack Davis, who is running on a Tea Party line he created. In a Siena College poll released April 29, Davis was winning support from 24 percent of voters, up from 23 percent. In the April poll, Corwin had 36 percent of voters' support, and Hochul had 31 percent.

The district stretches from the Buffalo suburbs east to Monroe County, and includes Clarkson, Ogden, Riga, Sweden and Wheatland, and most of Greece and Parma.
