Gallup currently has Obama's approval at 46/46. Compared to recent presidents, both Bushes were higher at this point, with George Bush Jr. riding his post 9/11 wave (he was trending downward through his first months in office and had dipped to 51% the week before 9/11). But looking at other presidents, Obama is at higher approval ratings than Reagan and Clinton at this point in their first terms.
