Quite an interesting discovery today while I was at church. I was in my Gospel Principles class, and we were talking about work and self reliance (which the church is big on). Anyway, my teacher had gone to a meeting this morning for the senior priests. The church believes in taking care of yourself first, and your family second. The people in my class had been taught before that if you couldn't take care of yourself and your family, that then you went to the church for help. But that's changed a bit. They told the priests that the bishops and stake presidents should counsel the members to first seek help from local government, and then when that's exhausted, seek state and federal government aid, and THEN, when they still need help, ask the church for help.
