I hope he does, Paul. The general screwed up royally. He's a commissioned officer. You just don't do what he did and expect to retain your command.
You're right a commisioned officer always has the right to resign his commission if he doesn't agree with the Orders or direction he is being given. Then he can blather on all he wants.

This is a good thing, I like General Petraeus better any way. And I think he would resign if he believed the President was directing him to take actions or strategy that he strongly disagreed with.
